3 Simple Changes That Improved My Pregnancy Experience

In a recent Q&A on Instagram, someone asked a question that really resonated with me. I’ve been surprised and delighted by how many women are pregnant at the same time—I feel a strong connection to other moms-to-be. For anyone currently pregnant or considering pregnancy, here are three things that I believe had a positive impact on my experience.

1. Experience and exposure

My sister had her first baby in 2023, and being close to her throughout her pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood gave me a ton of confidence. Watching her navigate each step, and seeing her remain herself while adapting to this new chapter, provided valuable, practical lessons I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. Observing her routine, the way she prepared, and how she balanced life and motherhood helped normalize the whole process for me.

Before my sister’s pregnancy, I didn’t have much exposure to babies. Going through it alongside her made a huge difference in how confident I felt. I’ve had a very positive pregnancy so far—I’m 36 weeks—and I want to share what’s worked for me to help other future moms and those thinking about pregnancy. I maintain a pregnancy section on my site with posts you can browse. There’s also a curated list of essentials on my Amazon storefront with pregnancy necessities and baby items I’ve found helpful.

2. Trust yourself

Being able to go with the flow has been a major asset. Staying relaxed and trusting my instincts helped me remain positive and present. Instead of worrying about every possible outcome, I listened to my body and made choices that felt right for me. I also filtered out unsolicited advice—especially the negative or fear-based comments—and focused on what supported my wellbeing.

There’s an overwhelming amount of information available to pregnant people, and it can be confusing. While research and professional guidance are valuable, my best tip is to trust your gut and find what works for you. Pregnancy isn’t one-size-fits-all; learning what helps you feel safe and comfortable will make a big difference.

3. Don’t change your day-to-day

Keeping a mostly normal routine has helped me stay grounded. Despite the extra tasks that come with preparing for a baby, maintaining my usual schedule has been great for my mental health and made the time feel like it flew by. That said, I’ve also been intentional about savoring these final weeks because I’ve truly enjoyed being pregnant.

My routine still includes daily workouts, walks outside, and occasional pilates classes, along with full-time work and cooking. At the same time, I’ve prioritized more rest and recovery—napping when I need to, stretching regularly, and listening to my body’s signals. Balancing activity with rest has kept me feeling both productive and cared for.
