Ingredients
Organic Turkey Burgers
- 1 lb organic ground turkey, (can sub for organic chicken or grass-fed beef)
- 1/3 cup chopped spinach or collard greens
- 1/2 diced bell pepper
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 extra wide sweet potato
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, chopped spinach or collard greens, diced bell pepper, cumin, chopped cilantro, red chili flakes, chili powder, and garlic powder. Mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
-
Shape the mixture into four even patties, compacting them gently so they hold together while cooking.
-
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat until it is hot but not smoking.
-
Add the patties to the pan and cook about 5–8 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Cover the pan with a lid to speed cooking if desired. Cook until the internal temperature reaches a safe level for your chosen protein.
-
Meanwhile, slice the extra-wide sweet potato into 1/2-inch-thick rounds. Arrange the rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
-
Lightly spray or brush the sweet potato slices with avocado oil. Place them on the oven’s second rack and broil on high (about 525°F / 275°C) until they begin to brown.
-
Broil the rounds for about 6–8 minutes per side, flipping when the edges turn golden and the surface bubbles. Watch closely to avoid burning.
-
Assemble each burger using two sweet potato rounds as the “bun,” adding a turkey patty, mixed greens, sliced avocado, and any condiments you prefer. Serve immediately and enjoy.
