We often hear about superfoods like blueberries, kale, salmon and avocado because they’re rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Lately, I’ve been rethinking the idea of “superfoods” and paying closer attention to the everyday ingredients that support overall health. One food that might surprise you on that list is beef.
Beef isn’t typically labeled a “superfood” the way some fruits and vegetables are, yet its nutritional profile deserves recognition. Below I outline the reasons I’ve been adding more beef to my meals and share a few favorite recipes. When possible, choose grass-fed, organic beef—these options tend to provide a more favorable fatty acid profile and additional nutrients compared with conventional beef.
The Benefits Of Beef
- High-Quality Protein and Satiety. Beef supplies complete protein with all essential amino acids needed for muscle repair, recovery and growth. Including beef in meals helps reach muscle protein synthesis thresholds after exercise and supports maintenance of lean mass. Protein-rich meals also promote satiety, helping you feel satisfied longer. Grass-fed beef is my preferred choice for cooking, and convenient options like beef sticks can be useful for on-the-go protein.
- Nutrient Density. Beef contains several essential nutrients that support daily health, including iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and other B vitamins. These micronutrients play important roles in metabolism, immune function and overall well-being.
- Heme Iron. Beef is a good source of heme iron, the form of iron that is more readily absorbed by the body than non-heme iron from plant sources. Adequate iron supports oxygen transport, energy levels, recovery and helps prevent fatigue.
Beyond nutrition, beef is incredibly versatile in the kitchen and appeals to a wide range of palates. I always keep ground beef on hand because it cooks quickly and adapts to many dishes. Below are a few of my favorite beef recipes that are easy, flavorful and family-friendly.
Beef Fried Rice
This is a weekly staple in my home—fast, comforting and easy to scale up. Make a double batch for leftovers that reheat well and save you time later. Use cooked rice, your choice of vegetables and seasoned ground beef for a simple, satisfying meal.

Crockpot Pot Roast
If you want something more elevated and effortless, a crockpot pot roast is ideal. It requires only a few minutes of prep and fills your home with rich, comforting aromas as it slow-cooks. This method yields tender meat and a deeply flavored sauce—perfect for busy days.

One Pan Lasagna Skillet
This one-pan lasagna skillet is a revelation—rich, cheesy and impossibly easy. It’s the perfect way to use a pound of ground beef when you want a comforting family meal without multiple pots and pans. One-pan dinners like this are great for busy weeknights.

Enchilada Skillet
The enchilada skillet is another favorite. While the original recipe often uses turkey, swapping in grass-fed ground beef produces an equally delicious, slightly richer flavor. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing meal that comes together in a single pan.
