How to Make Date Snickers (Step-by-Step Instructions)
Prep the dates
If not already pitted, slice each Medjool date lengthwise and remove the pit. Open the date gently without slicing all the way through so it forms a pocket for the filling.
Fill with peanut butter
Spoon a small amount of natural peanut butter into each date, spreading it lightly so the pocket fills evenly.
Add the crunch
Top the peanut butter with a few chopped peanuts, pressing them gently so they adhere.
Melt the chocolate
Melt dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in short bursts (20–30 seconds), stirring between each interval until smooth.
Dip the dates
Use a fork or two spoons to dip each stuffed date into the melted chocolate, letting excess drip off. Alternatively, lightly drizzle chocolate over the dates if you prefer less coating.
Set and finish
Place the chocolate-covered dates on parchment-lined paper, sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired, and transfer to the refrigerator or freezer until the chocolate sets, about 20–30 minutes.
Serve or store
Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer for a ready-to-eat, healthier snack.
Recipe Substitutions & Questions
Peanut butter and peanuts are my favorite combination here, but feel free to swap in almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter and the corresponding chopped nuts. For a dairy-free option, choose a dairy-free dark chocolate; if you tolerate dairy, any dark chocolate will work. Adjust the salt to your taste—flaky sea salt gives the same sweet-and-salty contrast that makes these so satisfying.
Are dates good for you?
Dates are a natural alternative to refined sugar and are commonly used as a sweetener in healthier recipes. They offer fiber and antioxidants, which contribute to overall nutrition when eaten as part of a balanced diet.
Are dates with peanut butter a good pre-workout snack?
Yes. Dates provide quick, natural sugars for an energy boost, while peanut butter supplies protein and healthy fats to help sustain energy and keep you feeling satisfied during a workout. Combined, they make a convenient pre-workout bite.

5-Ingredient Date Snickers

Ingredients
- organic pitted dates
- organic peanut butter, (or nut butter of your choice)
- organic dry-roasted or raw peanuts, (or nut of your choice)
- dairy-free dark chocolate, (I love Evolved chocolate)
- maldon salt
Instructions
-
Pit dates if not already pitted, and slice down the middle (but not all the way through) so you can open them up.
-
Add parchment paper to a plate or small baking sheet (be sure it will fit in your freezer). Open each date slightly to form a pocket, and space them evenly on the parchment paper.
-
Add enough nut butter to fill each date about 75% of the way, top with a few nuts, then pinch closed. Place in the freezer for 15–20 minutes to firm up.
-
While the dates chill, melt your chocolate and let it cool slightly before dipping.
-
Remove dates from the freezer and dip each one in the melted chocolate until coated. Use two spoons to reduce mess or drizzle chocolate instead of fully coating if you prefer.
-
Sprinkle with flaky salt, then return to the freezer for 20–30 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.
-
Enjoy right away or store in an airtight container.
